How to Paint Pots

Annabelle's Angels' whimsical terra cotta pots are a hand-painted craft from the Pacific Northwest in North Bend, WA!

SPRING 2004

Thank you to Ellie Tolbers, of Lakeside Stamping, for our first project page

on how to stamp on Flower Pots!  This is a wonderful springtime craft idea.

Enjoy and have fun crafting as a family!

Stamping on Clay Pots

Stamping on terra cotta pots - project picture

This is a fun project to do with the kids!

I used Hoppy Spring stamp set from The Angel CompanyŠ for the stamp images.

First paint the clay pot.  I used white acrylic paint for this example. I applied just one coat of paint using a foam brush and I used my heat gun to speed up the drying process.

How to paint flower pots

I stamped the bunny image using the Mediterranean Blue Brilliance ink pad.  I stamped the grass image with the Gamma Green Brilliance.  I used Pearlescent Orchid and Pearlescent Yellow Brilliance for the flowers around the flower pot rim.

To stamp on a round surface like a clay pot, I hold the clay pot in my hand and roll the stamp on the pot. (A little tip when using unmounted stamps and stamping on a round surface.  Use just the rubber die, without the mount, and hold with your hand to help it curve around the round surface!).  Start with the left side of the stamp and then roll onto the pot while applying even pressure.  This takes a little practice first!

Use your heat gun to speed up the drying process in between adding more ink

I used a sponge to apply more ink to the pot.  I used Sky Blue Brilliance around the bunny and more green around the grass images.

I colored in the bunny spots using the Fantastix applicator and the Orchid Brilliance

To project the paint and ink, I used Clear Acrylic Sealer (make sure to be in a well-ventilated area!).

Fill the pot with traditional Easter grass and candies.  This makes a great gift for grandparents, teachers and yourself!
