May 2, 2004:
Poor Lily. She was
having a GREAT day yesterday. We played a lot out in the backyard, she was
climbing, sliding, running around and laughing with us. Then, we came
inside and Daniel and Lily were playing in the playroom on the indoor
little Tikes slide and I heard crying. I ran in the room and Lily was on
the floor crying pretty hard. She said Daniel pushed her off the slide.
Daniel was upset too. I figured that Daniel was just having trouble
sharing time on the slide so I told him not to push Lily and then hugged
Lily and gave her some comfort. She didn't calm down at all. Then I
noticed that her little arm was in a weird position. She was carrying it
funny and was crying harder than usual. I got Kevin right away and he
noticed that she was not able to move her arm up and she pointed to her
write and said it was owie. She was SO sad and crying hard but being so
good! You could tell she was in a lot of pain.
We decided to take
her to the ER. We took Daniel to my friend Mandee's house. Then we took
Lily to the hospital. We waited for a couple hours before we saw the
Doctor. Lily was a little trooper. She was in a lot of pain but kept her
arm still and we held her and talked to her. The doctor first thought it
could be a dislocation at the elbow. But, after moving her arm (boy, was
Lily ever mad at him for that) and talking to her too, he agreed that it
had to be something else like a break, fracture or something. He ordered
xrays. Lily was great for that too. She had to straighten out her arm for
the xrays and she was so scared. I held her in my lap. That was so hard
cause I just wanted to scoop her up and run away with her. Poor sweetie.

The
xrays were hard to read cause there is a line there at her wrist but the
Doc said he wasn't thinking it's a fracture. Ugh! He moved her arm
around again thinking of the relocation but it can't because her pain is
in her lower wrist/forearm. They splinted her arm to above the elbow and
down into her hand. Boy, she had had ENOUGH at that point! She did NOT
like the nurse who did the splint. I felt so badly for Lily cause she
was SO sweet the entire time and by then was VERY tired, been in pain
for a long time and had been so patient. They gave her Tylenol with
Codeine and told us to have it checked the next day (today). Isn't that
annoying? No answers really and we have to wait to see a Dr. today.
So, she did fine overnight. She is resting and being spoiled and
watching TV. We have our appt. today at 3:45pm with the Orthopedic Dr. I
will let you know what happens. May
3, 2004 We
are back with Lily in a purple cast from hand to upper forearm! It's not
a break or fracture but a bend or stress on the bone. There are two
areas in her wrist/forearm area that look bent some and so a cast is
necessary. My poor Lily, she had to have MORE xrays done. What a
trooper. They had to move her wrist and I could tell it hurt hurt hurt
BAD. Also, the Doctor had to move it around and touch all over her arm.
When he got to that tender area, she did not like him anymore. LOL Poor
doctor. She was so good. I will get pictures and post them. It's a small
cast for a small little girl. She charmed everyone in the office.
Thanks everyone for your concern and well wishes. We can feel them here
big time!! |
